After I got back from Seoul, I checked out the samples I got from Missha. By the way, I bought Missha at the airport, so I got a pretty nice discount (I was flying Asiana). But even without the discount, Missha’s still one of the more affordable lines, so if you’re new to the whole BB cream phase, this is one of the brands to check out.
I love my Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF42, as I mentioned in an earlier post, but of course I’m not discounting other brands entirely yet. With my Seoul fever not subsiding yet, I started studying a bit of Korean, beginning with the alphabet. I practiced my new skills on one of the samples that I got from Missha; I couldn’t figure out what it was earlier because there’s no English on the packet.
Anyway, my unwieldy Korean skills helped: turns out I got two sample packs of Missha Oriental Herbs BB Cream SPF30, but in Shade#21. It was lighter than what I was using (I use #23), but I thought it would still work since I’m not that dark anyway.
So I tried it.
My review after the cut…
Shade. Since it’s #21, I thought it would be too light for me. In reality, it wasn’t that light. The problem, though, was that it looked very pink. When I use my Missha M Perfect Cover, the shade is perfect on me. I’ve got yellow undertones, so the pinkish tinge looked pretty bad on me. Thank goodness I was still using my MAC blotting powder then, which evened out the color.
Consistency. It’s a lot stickier and thicker than the Perfect Cover, but spreading it isn’t a problem.
Oil Control. Pretty bad. Even with the Missha BB Boomer under, my noise still got oily after a few hours.
Coverage. In terms of coverage, it rivals Perfect Cover. It didn’t really hide my eyebags, though, but that’s the norm for me already. I guess coverage is medium.
Effects on skin. It’s a lot more glow-y than Perfect Cover. I love the way it looked right after I applied it. Perfect Cover is more matte than most BB creams, while Oriental Herbs has a more “glow from within” look. I can’t vouch for its healing claims, though, because I used it for just two times (tiny sample; other one got mooched by my sister).
Acne or clogged pores. Didn’t get any bumps from this, but then again I used for just two days.
Fragrance. I can’t complain, because I grew up around Chinese herbs (my dad’s family is made up of Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors and pharmacists). For others, though, the scent can be distracting. It’s not pleasant is what I’m trying to say :D
Overall Verdict: I don’t like it that much, but I don’t dislike it either. If I had to choose between this and Perfect Cover I’d take Perfect Cover any time. I just didn’t see anything special with this, even with the claims it makes.
